Mills Park has received yet another accolade this month, at the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects’ 2018 WA Landscape Architecture Awards on Friday 21 July.

The facility received the Infrastructure Landscape Architecture Award, for the successful integration of ‘green infrastructure’ in revitalising the community hub.

The Institute praised the City and designer Cardno WA for resolving site drainage issues, poorly performing vegetation areas, water quality and irrigation management, and for incorporating these solutions into the design, while sitting very comfortably in a bushland and waterway setting.

“The designers are acknowledged for their collaboration with stakeholders, including the Water Corporation, to implement strategies to manage stormwater run-off, harvest rainwater for aquifer recharge and irrigation use, re-use grey water, improve water quality and amend soil regimes to reduce water losses,” the award citation stated.

Mayor Glenn Dewhurst said Mills Park had received more than a dozen awards since its completion in 2016.

“Mills Park is an outstanding facility and we are particularly proud of the landscaping, so to have it recognised by this award is particularly pleasing,” he said.

“But it’s seeing the facility so well used throughout the year that is the biggest reward for the City. On any given day, Mills Park is filled with families, sports players, walkers, skateboarders and scooter riders, fitness enthusiasts and more.”
