Dining with Sinners has won the 2021 Gozzy Rock music competition, hosted by the City of Gosnells, thanks to their high-energy and engaging rock performance.

They were among six finalists – also including Ari-Lou, Shakira Goltman, Stamina, TJ and Viperchain – who competed last Saturday night, 22 May, at the Don Russell Performing Arts Centre in the City’s annual ‘battle-of-the-bands’ style competition.

Mayor David Goode said Dining with Sinners earned a $1,500 prize after delivering a polished performance, showing great stage presence and interaction with the crowd.

Solo performer TJ won the $750 second prize, while Viper Chain won the $500 third prize.

“Congratulations to everyone who entered in this year’s Gozzy Rock competition, to our six finalists and especially to our three prize winners,” he said.

“As WA’s longest-running original music competition, Gozzy Rock has been helping unsigned bands and artists break into the music industry since 1986. It’s always an exciting event that celebrates the talents and passions of young people in our community.”

This year’s competition was judged by Katherine John from KJ Entertainment, Jaime Mercanti (known as Slim Jim), and Darren Versaico from Mega Music.

Young people keen to get their music fix before the next Gozzy Rock competition, should check out The SoundLab, the City’s youth space at Amherst Village Community Centre in Southern River. It has a recording studio, drop-in activities and regular music programs.
