WA’s longest-running music competition is back in 2019 with a new format and new opportunities for young musicians and bands to make their mark on Perth’s music scene.

Gozzy Rock, hosted by the City of Gosnells, will give 12 to 25-year-olds a chance to showcase their talents and win some great prizes in a battle-of-the-bands style event.

The City’s Mayor Glenn Dewhurst called on young musicians to get involved.

“Since 1986, we’ve provided an avenue for emerging musical talent and we’re doing it again this year,” the Mayor said.

“However, this year’s event will not involve live heats – instead, entrants will need to submit an original or cover song demo recording or video via SoundCloud, YouTube, Facebook or Vimeo.

“A panel of music industry professionals will select six finalists to perform live on Saturday 27 April at the City’s Don Russell Performing Arts Centre, where the winners will be chosen.

“We want the 31st Gozzy Rock to be a great way for young people to further their interest in music, so this year’s winners will receive music store vouchers for equipment purchases.”

Vouchers include $1,500 for first, $750 for second and $500 for third place.

Gozzy Rock entries close Friday 12 April and entrants must be aged 12 to 25 years, with at least one band member living, working or studying in the City of Gosnells. Anyone who enters via Facebook must tag the Gozzy Rock Facebook page.

Community members can attend the final and free tickets will be released via the City’s website at www.gosnells.wa.gov.au closer to the event.
