The community has strongly supported a City of Gosnells plan to create a new community space and enhance the sporting future of Gosnells Oval.

Plans include a new nature play all abilities playground with a splash pad for water play, a new sports pavilion, improvements to the grandstand and upgrades to landscaping, the oval’s playing surface and car park.

Feedback provided after two community information sessions, meetings with the Gosnells Football Club and an online survey via the City’s website was broadly supportive of the project, with Council adopting the Gosnells Oval Masterplan last month.

Mayor David Goode said the project, expected to cost around $8.4 million, would breathe new life into this well-established community.

“It was great to have such detailed input from the local community and football club, ensuring this facility will serve the needs of local people for years to come,” he said.

“The redevelopment of Gosnells Oval will occur in stages over multiple years to reduce the impact on the club and surrounding community, and once complete, will provide a top-class sports ground as well as modern facilities for the wider community to enjoy.”

Under the plan, the new sports pavilion will keep the name ‘Percy Garrett’, as requested by the club.

Funds have been allocated in the City’s 2021/22 Budget to undertake further site investigations, before the design stage.
