Entries from emerging and professional artists are sought for the City of Gosnells Community Art Exhibition and Awards, which opens on Wednesday 17 March.

With a prize pool of $9,500, the event attracts many talented local artists, as well as those from further afield.

Mayor Goode said the long-running competition, which included an exhibition from 22 – 28 May, was a terrific way to showcase the community’s art and talents.

“The City places great value on the contribution made by artists and I’m pleased that once again, the overall winning piece will be acquired for the City’s art collection, with the artist receiving $5,000,” he said.

“Visitors to the exhibition will also have a chance to vote for their favourite artworks, with the most popular taking out the Primewest People’s Choice Award, which will earn the artist a $500 prize.”

A $500 prize will also be offered for each of the following categories:

  • Acrylic

  • Pastel, pencil, pen and watercolour

  • Oil

  • Photography and digital media

  • Mixed media and three-dimensional sculpture

  • Youth award (12 – 17 years)

  • The City in Focus award

  • Local Artist award

The City’s Public Art Committee will judge all categories, except the Primewest People’s Choice Award.

The launch event, awards presentation and free exhibition will be held in the Lyal Richardson Hall at The Agonis in Gosnells, with most of the artwork available for purchase.
