It is now easier for individuals and community groups in the City of Gosnells to apply for financial support for projects after changes to the way the City delivers its funding program.

The new Community Funding Program replaces the Community Sponsorship Program and reduces the number of categories from 10 down to four.

The changes are designed to provide greater flexibility to the community in identifying projects that respond to local needs and priorities.

Mayor Glenn Dewhurst said of the four categories, two are open to the public, while the others are reserved for education and chaplaincy programs.

“Because the changes are significant, we strongly encourage community members who are considering applying for funding to attend an information session where the changes will be explained and most importantly, you will have the chance to ask questions,” he said.

The funding round for Category 1 (Level 2) is now open and applications close Tuesday 28 May. Applications for funding through Category 1 (Level 1) and Category 2 are open all year. Application forms are available on the City’s website.

The categories for the Community Funding Program are:

Category 1 – Community Grants

This category provides funding to support the delivery of programs, events, training, minor capital projects and the purchase of equipment.

  • Level 1 (Open for individuals and community organisations, all year round). Provides grants of up to $2,000 to support small-scale, local initiatives.
  • Level 2 (Open for community organisations, two rounds per year). To support community projects, these grants provide up to 50 per cent of project costs, to a maximum of $8,000.

Category 2 – Competition Sponsorships

This category is open all year round and provides funding assistance to support individuals who are representing Western Australia or Australia in their chosen field of endeavor. Eligibility criteria apply, however it may include sports, chess, choir, spelling, etc.

Category 3 – Education Scholarships

This category is nominated by school principals and includes school book presentations and annual funding scholarships.

Category 4 – School Chaplaincy Program

This category provides funds to YouthCARE to assist with the cost of delivering the School Chaplaincy Program within the City of Gosnells.
