City's response to COVID-19

Published on Tuesday 17 March, 2020

As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation continues to evolve, I would like to let members of our community know what is being done by the City of Gosnells to minimise risk.

The City is in contact with the WA Department of Health each day and is making decisions for the safety, health and wellbeing of our community, customers and staff based on the recommendations of the Department.

While most City services and facilities are currently operating on a 'business as usual' basis, steps have already been taken to manage the potential spread of COVID-19.

The Civic Centre remains open to meet customer needs. Facilities, including the four libraries, Addie Mills Centre, youth centres, Operations Centre, Leisure World and the Don Russell Performing Arts Centre, are continuing to operate.

However, users of these facilities must stay away if they have flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, shortness of breath), or have recently been overseas or have been in close contact with someone confirmed or suspected as having COVID-19.

Many City enquiries and payments can be made by phone or online, and we are encouraging our customers to use these options wherever possible. Our friendly Customer Service Officers are available to assist you.

Library members with a current and valid membership can access the City's digital collections and free online resources via the City's website.

In line with advice from Australia's Chief Medical Officer, the City has cancelled its remaining large events for this season, including the Harmony Night Market and Perth Airport Sunset Cinema screening of The Lion King.

The current plan is to continue with our regular programs and events for smaller groups, although the situation is evolving and the City will continue to monitor Department of Health advice and review this situation as necessary.

For now, we encourage members of our community to continue to stay informed about COVID-19, practice good hygiene, be aware and be prepared. For the latest information and advice, please visit the WA Department of Health website, which is updated daily, or call the Coronvirus health information line on 1800 020 080.
