The City of Gosnells has launched a Community Hotline, to assist residents who may need some support during the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.

Mayor David Goode said the hotline has been set up to allow City youth workers, senior services staff and community development staff to connect with local people over the phone, answer their questions and provide support.

As the community faces restrictions and limitations in a bid to limit the spread of COVID-19, staff will also be able to direct callers to local support services and volunteering opportunities.

“The Community Hotline allows our staff to talk to people, listen to their concerns, answer their questions and hopefully reduce some of their worries during this uncertain time,” Mayor Goode said.

“Our specialist staff members have well-established connections with local agencies and support services, and will be able to assist people directly, or link residents to the support they need.

“We recognise that there is a lot of confusion around COVID-19, and the hotline will provide a central point for our residents to seek assistance and to find out exactly what support services are available in our community.

“Sometimes people just want to be able to talk to somebody about their concerns or have their questions answered.

“The Community Hotline is for people who need assistance from our staff, from a service or volunteer group, or who are looking for ways to assist others during this difficult time.”

Mayor Goode emphasised that the hotline is not a counselling service for local residents, but instead aims to provide connections to support services.

“Dedicated hotline staff will provide information and referrals to service agencies during business hours, and there will be information and links on the City’s website, for people to access after hours.”

Members of the community can call the Community Hotline on 9397 3400 on Mondays to Fridays between 8.30am and 5pm, or visit the website at www.gosnells.wa.gov.au.
