Following advice from Australia’s Chief Medical Officer, the City of Gosnells has cancelled its Harmony Night Market and final Perth Airport Sunset Cinemas for the events season, as part of a comprehensive effort to minimise the impacts of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Harmony Night Market was scheduled for Friday 20 March and the Sunset Cinemas screening of The Lion King was scheduled for Saturday 4 April.

Chief Executive Officer Ian Cowie said the decision to cancel these activities follows the Chief Medical Officer’s advice that all gatherings of 500 or more people should be cancelled.

“It is regrettable that the City must cancel these two events. The decision has been made in the interests of community health and welfare, and has not been made lightly,” Mr Cowie said.

“This is an evolving situation and is a precautionary measure for the health of the entire community as well as our staff.”

Mr Cowie said WA Department of Health advice indicated the risk of transmission in Western Australia remained low. People should be alert, but not alarmed.

“We encourage everyone to stay informed, practice good hygiene, be aware and be prepared,” he said.

The State Government has set up a Coronavirus health information line and people with questions or concerns about COVID-19 can call 1800 020 080 for information. Regular updates are also provided by the Department of Health at ww2.health.wa.gov.au.
