Entries for the City of Gosnells Community Art Exhibition and Awards open on Friday 8 March, and creative souls across the City are encouraged to submit their artworks.

Mayor Glenn Dewhurst said the awards were open to everyone, from amateurs and hobbyists, to professional artists.

“Art makes our community a more vibrant and enjoyable place to live,” he said.

“That’s why the Community Art Exhibition and Awards are so important – because people want to live and visit places that are alive with creativity.”

Entrants will be in the running to win more than $9,000 in prizes, including $5,000 for the overall winner (acquisitive) and $500 prizes for each of nine award categories.

Categories include acrylic; local artist award; mixed media and three dimensional sculpture; oil; pastel, pencil, pen and watercolour; photography and digital media; Primewest People’s Choice Award; the City in Focus award; and the Youth Award.

Entries are open until 13 May. The exhibition will be open from 15 June to 21 June, and will be accompanied by a program of artist talks and workshops for community members to enjoy.

In 2018, the City received over 280 artworks as part of the Community Art Exhibition and Awards. Artist Chris Goldberg won the overall acquisitive prize for her striking artwork Invisible, which focused on disadvantage in the community.
