Sports like netball, basketball and handball can now be enjoyed at Mills Park in Beckenham, with the opening of a new multi-sports court near the skate plaza.

Following community consultation, three of the four existing tennis courts have been converted to accommodate other court sports, while the installation of floodlighting and shaded seating will make this area more useable for the general community.

Mayor David Goode said the upgrade was prompted by under-use of the tennis facilities and feedback from residents that highlighted growing demand for netball and basketball.

“Mills Park was built for community recreation, so it’s important to meet the needs of people using these facilities,” he said.

“There is now a great new space for netball, basketball and free play, along with areas for parents and spectators – it’s a fantastic result.”

A fence has been installed between the tennis and multi-sport courts, which are available for hire and open to the public.
