Maddington-based disability support service Directions has found a network of opportunities, thanks to the City of Gosnells’ BiG (Business in Gosnells) Events.

The regular networking events are designed to encourage idea sharing and networking, to support business development in the City. Featuring a different host each time they’re held, BiG Events provide a unique insight into some of the most vibrant small to medium businesses in the City.

However, the events have also facilitated mutually beneficial links between the business sector and non-profit groups such as Directions and local high schools.

Directions recently hosted a BiG Event and made several positive connections, which will assist the service to meet its clients’ complex needs.

“The BiG event was a great way for Directions to showcase who we are and the services we provide, while creating links with the community,” Directions Chief Executive Officer Elizabeth Barnes said.

“Directions supports people with disability to be included in their community and the connections we have made through the BiG Event are an essential part of that.

“Fostering strong links with our local business community will help them to see past the disability and assist them to make their businesses more welcoming to people with disability, whether as customers or staff members.”

City of Gosnells Mayor Glenn Dewhurst said the importance of networking between local businesses was often underestimated.

“I was thrilled to hear about Directions’ successes linking up with local businesses, and I look forward to hearing how these links benefit people with a disability in our community,” Mayor Dewhurst said.

“We have many great businesses, forward-thinking business people and exciting prospects in the City of Gosnells. By working together, we can expand our opportunities and realise our City’s economic potential.”
