City recognised in Living Longer, Living Stronger awards

The WA Council on the Ageing recently presented the Living Longer, Living Stronger Excellence Awards – with the City of Gosnells reaching the finals in three categories.

The awards recognise the efforts of providers around the State in facilitating fitness programs for seniors.

City of Gosnells Mayor Olwen Searle said the City’s Leisure World, based in Thornlie, was in the top three of the most outstanding metropolitan providers of fitness programs for seniors.

“It is very pleasing our fitness centre was short listed among the top three metropolitan facilities in Western Australia,” said Mayor Searle.

“Leisure World fitness instructor Pauline Hodgson was a finalist in the most outstanding metropolitan instructor award, and Leisure World received a Gold Excellence award for outstanding commitment to seniors over many years,” she said.

“This is an outstanding achievement by the City with a great deal of work and effort being put in by all concerned.

“To reach the top three in these categories from a huge field of more than 1000 entries around the State is a fantastic result for the City.”

The finalists were selected by an independent panel which included representatives from the Department of Health, Injury Control Council of WA and the Falls Prevention Health Network.
