Amherst comes alive with a free Community Day

Recently, the Amherst Village Community Centre came alive with a free Community Day.
Over 1000 guests attended this celebration of the newly-opened centre which has already had more than 5500 visitors since its opening three weeks ago – with more than 1000 of these visitors becoming new library members.
Mayor Olwen Searle said that the Community Day offered something for everyone, including children’s activities such as face painting, balloon twisting, Have-a-go circus and magic show, DJ sessions, stencil art workshops and live recording sessions.
“The centre also has a library, internet access, meeting rooms, games on the big screen and a top-class function room,” Mayor Searle said.
Open Day visitors are also encouraged to try out the Wii interactive computer games – with every entrant going into the draw to win great prizes.
The Amherst Village Community Centre is on the corner of Warton Road and Holmes Street, Southern River.
