Heritage volunteering

The City encourages members of the community to volunteer their time to local history and heritage related works, even if it’s only a couple of hours per week. It’s a great way to find out more about your local area, meet new people, and be involved with your local community.

Heritage Services currently has the following positions available (see links below). You can find other volunteer positions with the City, or check out the Volunteering WA website for other alternatives, via the Related Links section below.

Museum attendants

Volunteers are needed to assist at the Museum for a few hours a week, on a rotational basis. Learn about local history and share your knowledge with visitors in the beautiful surrounds of Wilkinson Homestead.

Restoration shed

On the grounds of the Wilkinson Homestead Museum is a facility used for restoration of the Museum's historic agricultural equipment. Volunteers with relevant skills and experience are welcome.

Thornlie Living History Group

A dedicated group of volunteers involved in researching and collecting the history of the Thornlie suburb and its people.

Oral history project volunteers

These positions ares responsible for conducting audio interviews and/or converting them into kits which are made available to the public in the City’s Oral History Collection.
