Calling out for bands

Local musicians can be part of history by entering Gozzy Rock’s 30th anniversary competition before 28 July, with a chance to win part of $10,000 in cash and prizes.

The annual music competition is open for unsigned bands playing all original music, with at least one band member aged 25 or under.

Previous success stories include finalists from 2004, Bus56, who later changed their name to Sons of Rico and achieved national success, touring Australia. They continue to record and release new music, based in Melbourne.

Singer/songwriter Josh Johnstone is currently touring Europe with his new band, after first performing at Gozzy Rock in 1995 with a band called Red Cordial, which won the encouragement award that year.

Heats for the 30th anniversary competition will take place at the Don Russell Performing Arts Centre in Thornlie on 19 and 20 August, before the finals take place on 27 August.

Past winners will also perform at the finals event, to celebrate Gozzy Rock’s 30th anniversary.

Gozzy Rock is a drug, alcohol and smoke free event suitable for all ages. This City of Gosnells project is proudly supported by the Gosnells Youth Advisory Council, RTRFM 92.1 community radio station, WAM – Western Australian Music, BandAide consultancy/management service and 107.3 HFM.
