Roadworks to ease congestion and improve traffic flow on William Street in Beckenham are set to be completed this month.

The $1.2 million project has widened a 350m stretch of William Street between Bickley Road and Camberwell Road, to include a wider median strip and turning pockets.

“Once complete, this project will make it safer for drivers to turn at the Bickley and Camberwell road intersections,” City of Gosnells Deputy Mayor Julie Brown said.

“This stretch of road is in a busy commercial area, with plenty of large retailers nearby, so these improvements to traffic flow will result in safer driving conditions for people who live and work in the City.”

The State Government funded $800,000 of the project, with the remaining $400,000 funded by the City.

Prior to the roadworks, traffic counts and crash statistics showed right angle crashes significantly over represented at the Camberwell Street intersection, and a higher rate of sideswipe crashes at the Bickley Street intersection.

Cr Brown thanked residents for their understanding during the roadworks, and reminded drivers to take care in the area while the works were in their final stages.
