The City of Gosnells has just completed installation of a multi-sports area at Jean Garvey Park in Gosnells, giving young people a great new space in which to be active.
City of Gosnells Deputy Mayor Julie Brown said the outdoor fitness area was located alongside other youth facilities at the park, including a skate park and The Shack youth centre, to encourage more young people into activities to improve their physical health.
“It’s important that young people have usable spaces and this new area gives them a chance to be social and get involved in lots of fun activities that also promote good health,” Cr Brown said.
Local young people provided input to the project to ensure the multi-sport equipment would meet their needs.
The City’s Youth Services team now plans to host regular activities at the site, including a ‘Streetball’ basketball competition.
The upgrade cost $34,000, of which $18,000 was funded by the City and $16,000 through the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Programme grant.
