New focus for City’s multicultural celebrations

Fusion Festival 2017

Celebrating food and culture in the City of Gosnells will have a fresh focus with the Fusion Food and Culture Festival, an exciting community event to take place on Friday 10 November, from 4pm to 9pm, at Mills Park in Beckenham.

Presented by Act Belong Commit, the event will be a fusion of diverse cultures and local talent, bringing Mills Park to life with global arts and crafts, entertainment, cultural activities, cooking demonstrations, tasty food and more.

Building on the success of the City’s Multicultural Food Fair at Langford Oval, the Fusion Festival will provide flexibility for a range of community and cultural groups to get involved, and room for the event to continue to grow well into the future.

“Our rich cultural diversity is one of the pivotal strengths of our community,” City of Gosnells Mayor Olwen Searle said.

“The Fusion Festival, celebrating food and culture, will revitalise the City’s annual multicultural celebration, providing greater opportunities to showcase and engage the many cultures that form the City of Gosnells.

“This fresh focus reflects the value of cultural diversity within the City, while providing a wonderful event for the whole community to enjoy.”

Cr Searle said Langford Oval had been a wonderful home to the previous Multicultural Food Fair for 16 years, however the event had become so popular it had outgrown the venue, prompting the exciting new format.

“Mills Park is easily accessible, provides more parking and can accommodate larger crowds and more community groups,” she said.

Expressions of interest from cultural groups, community groups and local businesses, to be involved in Fusion are being sought now.

Applications to host a stall close on Monday 11 September, and no late applications will be accepted. Stallholder application form and guidelines can be found at www.gosnells.wa.gov.au/fusionfestival.
